We are located on traditional Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe territory. We acknowledge that we are on unceded territory in a place called Tiohtia:ke. We recognize the violent colonial history that has provided us with the spaces we gather in today. Colonial projects seek to control land, which is directly connected to food access. Traditional knowledge about growing and preparing food has been disrupted by the settler state. Food insecurity disproportionately impacts Indigenous communities, on this campus and in northern communities. Land acknowledgements are typically stagnant statements recognizing the past. We want to use this time to also promote forward-looking events and actions. We encourage you to share the events linked to this acknowledgment.
